On April 8, 2008 6 ½ month old Tyler Doran was diagnosed with a rare stage 3 cancerous tumor on his liver called Hepatoblastoma. On May 12, 2008 the Dr. called with new information about Tyler's tumor after additional testing was done. The Dr. believes that while his tumor shows characteristics of hepatoblastoma Tyler's tumor is in fact a Malignant Rhabdoid Tumor. This is another rare form of childhood cancer. Rhabdoid cancer is very aggressive and does not respond well to chemotherapy. Currently, Tyler's tumor covers more than 65% of his liver. Doctors are attempting to shrink the tumor through chemotherapy in hopes of one day performing surgery to remove it. The various rounds of chemotherapy and upcoming surgery mean multiple blood transfusions, hospital stays and countless other complications.
Tyler is the youngest of two. He lives in New Lenox, Illinois with his parents and older sister Caeley. To help alleviate worrisome medical expenses, lost wages, travel expenses and to allow the Doran Family to focus on Tyler’s fight against this disease, a benefit is being held for the Doran Family. The benefit will be held on October 5, 2008 at 115 Bourbon Street in Merrionette Park. Any donation you can offer to help the success of this event would be greatly appreciated.
